1800 ?

1800? , thats what Samajwadi Party's election manifesto promises. This disturbing document plans to deag India back by almost 200 years, no less. I tried to get the softcopy of the original manifesto but it does not seem that such a thing exists.

A few interesting excerpts:

1. "if a new government were to be formed with SP’s support, it would work to abolish schools providing expensive education in English "

2. "On computers, Mulayam said their use was leading to unemployment. He added that wherever work can be done by hand, computers would be abolished. Later, it was clarified that less use of computers would be enforced only in new projects — again, something that could put new projects at a disadvantage vis-a-vis older ones. "

3."the SP has also come out against mechanized farming, arguing against agricultural machines. Harvesters, Mulayam said, would snatch jobs from poor labourers during the harvesting season which, he claimed, gave employment for six months."

4."after tractors were introduced, the bovine population has been coming down. Instead of ploughing land, bullocks and calves were going to slaughter houses. "  (Awesome LR skills !)

5."if a government was formed with SP’s support, it would work to cut back if not abolish stock trading and mall culture. " (I dont get that link between Mall Culture and Pub Culture, 2 completely different things)

I dont understand how can an almost national party have such bullshit in their official manifesto. Moreover, it is extremely surprising that these points have not got wide coverage in the national media neither have they been a subject of debate.

All this reminds me of the 'Black Manifesto' of 'Icon', a book by Frederick Forsyth.

I realize the posts so far are 'No Good'. need to write better; and the content needs to be more meaningful, there seems to be the 'it' missing but cannot understand what exactly. If you have any suggestions i.e. if even a single person goes through my blog albeit, an accident :P.

I hope I do get some meaningful suggestions .

Bhay Ho !

I had read up sometime back that Congress bought the rights of the Oscar winning track 'Jai Ho'. This is the ad based on the Jai Ho theme. BJP took no time to retort and came up with its own 'Bhay Ho' (fear)  viral ad. While the usual suspects - Nehru, momma and beta Gandhi find mention in he congress campaign, there is no talk of the future leader who will lead the country if the party is voted to power( though soniaji has considerable footage in the latter half of the video), very surprising considering that Congress calls itself to be a party which had young leaders in abundance. On the other hand, BJP has from the very beginning projected Advani as the leader. This will work to the party's benefit , I feel.

The online campaignof the BJP was something which I feel was very well done and seems to be influenced by Obama's campaign. Mint carried an article on the same. Another very good analysis of the online campaigns of the political parties can be found here. Interestingly, the entire online campaign of the BJP is run by Pradyut Bora, an IIM Ahmedabad alumnus. Incidentally, in the previous elections, BJP had run its 'India Shining' campaign which did not work although it seemed to be a good campaign.

All said and done, it is quite useless to predict what will work and what will not.
